A search was made for a timber corduroy track which was seen by Mr W Cormack when the present A 74 was constructed. The trackway was seen in a small field to the east of the A 74. Two small test pits were excavated here as nothing was visible on the surface. The test pits revealed no sign of the trackway nor of any peat deposits. On the opposite side of the A 74 the ground had been stripped of topsoil revealing some disturbed peat but no sign of the trackway could be found.
