This intermediate station on the Wick - Lybster branch of the former Highland Rly opened (by the Wick and Lybster Light Rly) on 1 July 1903 and closing to regular passenger traffic on 1 April 1944.

R V J Butt 1995.

Two roofed buildings are marked as 'Station (disused)' on the current edition of the OS 1:10,000 map (1994).

Information from RCAHMS (FO) 10 May 1996

Note (23 February 2024)

R V J Butt incorrectly states that Bilbster was part of the Wick - Lybster branch of the former Highland Rly. The station was actually on the Georgemas Junction to Wick section of the Sutherland & Caithness Railway (Operated by the Highland Railway and now known as part of the Far North Line), which opened on 28 July 1874. Bilbster Station closed on 13 June 1960.

Information from Friends of the Far North Line to HES, 23 February 2024
