Archaeology Notes

NJ91NE 14 unlocated

(Location cited as NJ 962 163). No further details available.

Information from: Mr P A Yeoman, 20 January 1992.

There is no visible evidence of a motte at the location cited by Yeoman (NJ 962 163), most of the area being taken up by the steep-sided gully of the Millden Burn. If the identification of a motte hinges on the ?Hatton? place-name, then a more likely location for a motte would be in the vicinity of Hatton farm (NJ 962 160), but no evidence of any earthworks can be seen there either.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS, IF) 19 February 1996.

(Location cited as NJ c. 940 170 and numbered NJ91NW 13). There are no identifiable remains of the motte that is said to have stood near Belhelvie. It may have become confused with that noted near Hatton of Millden.

NMRS, MS/712/28.
