Name Book 1871

There is a low mound, 26.0m in diameter and 2.0m high, at ND 1487 6472, in a prominent position on a false crest, a position typical of a cairn. Upon this mound is a slight mound, 10.0m in diameter, upon which is a modern monument.

Resurveyed at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (N K B) 11 November 1965

(ND 1487 6472) Mound (NR)

OS 6" map (1970)

A turf-coverd mound generally as described by the previous field investigator. It is probably a cairn or barrow as suggested. No 'slight mound, 10.0m in diameter' is now to be seen. The daughter of the field owner believes the 2.5m high modern solid drystone structure on the summit was erected late last century for an unknown purpose.

Revised at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (J B) 6 October 1981

Mound. Diameter: 32m. Circular grass-covered mound 1.5m high topped by a heap of stones to a height of 2m.

R J Mercer, NMRS MS/828/19, 1995
