The 'Ironstone Pit' that is noted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Lanarkshire, 1864, sheet xiii) had been abandoned by the end of the 19th century, when it was omitted from the 2nd edition (1899, sheet xix.NW). No trace was found of the pit at the location indicated, 120m WSW of Brow farmsteading (NS85NE 98).
