Activities

Field Visit (July 1968)

340. Cruck-framed Building, Clachadow.

One of the ruinous outbuildings of this farm formerly contained two pairs of crucks, which recently collapsed into the interior. The crucks (Fig. 227, Pl. 101E) were scarf-jointed and pegged at wall-head level, and were strengthened by collars; the ridge-pole appears to have been carried upon a yoke. The building in which the crucks were incorporated is partly of dry-stone and partly of remodelled on more than one occasion, but in its present form is probably of 19th-century date.

RCAHMS 1975, visited July 1968
