Archaeology Notes

ND16NE 42.01 1952 6860

(Location cited as ND 195 685). Windmill stump, Castlehill, early 19th century. A neatly built conical tower about 20ft (6.1m) high, of flagstone, with a corbelled doorway. The mill was almost certainly used for draining flagstone quarries.

J R Hume 1977.

Pumping Windmill, masonry rubble stump of a small unit probably used to pump the quarry workings. For details of the stump see MS/500/15/17.

Visited by RCAHMS (GJD) November 1991.
