Archaeology Notes

NT15NE 51.02 1855 5728

The second group of shafts and subsidence pits are situated a 100m NE of the track from the main A702 public road to Marfield farm at a point where two dykes meet.

Four shafts could be identified with several subsidence pits spread over an area to both the N and S of the track.

One group of subsidence pits forms a line running E to W for some 90-100m under a dyke into an improved field containing an area of rig. Visited by RCAHMS (DE) 18 September 1994.
