The extensive remains of this colliery, which is depicted on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Fifeshire, 1896, sheet xxxiii SW) as Fifeshire Main Colliery but by the 1914 revision of the 2nd edition of the OS 25-inch map, (Fifeshire, 1914, sheet xxxiii.14) as Oakley Colliery, are situated on the N side of Black Wood. Further associated pits lie to the S near Black House (NT 029 902).

Three pits are depicted, Pit No.3, Pit No.2 and Pit No.1 all with associated spoil heaps. A Tramroad connects this part of the complex with pits to the S.
