(ND 0926 6313) Stone Cist containing Human Remains found AD 1869 (NAT)

OS 6" map, Caithness, 2nd ed., (1907)

An old stone coffin containing human remains was removed about 1869.

The site is within 30m of a building, Torranakist, the name of which, though applied merely to a labourer's cottage, is significant. There is no further information, but see Cairn of Howe (ND06SE 3).

Name Book 1872; Visited by OS (J H) 17 June 1965.

No trace can be found of this cist and no information can be gained as to its association with any cairn - not even the Cairn of Howe, q.v.

Visited by OS (R D) 24 March 1965.

(ND 0926 6313) Cist found 1869 (NAT)

OS 1:10,000 map, (1975)

There is no local knowledge of this cist or its contents. The site occurs in a hollow, which suggests it may be inaccurate.

Visited by OS (N K B) 16 September 1981.
