Accessing Scotland's Past Project

Hunting was an important past-time and social pursuit for the Victorian nobility, and Floors had its own gamekeeper and a pack of hounds.

The gamekeeper's house and kennels are near the Home Farm, hidden from view by the woodland surrounding the Castle. A plan of 1833 shows the gamekeeper's single-storey cottage with four relatively small rooms. On the other hand, the kennels appear as a two storey Neo-Classical range, with supporting wings on either side.
