Archaeology Notes

NM22SE 53 NM2904 2472

The location of a boat naust beside Port an Diseart was identified by RCAHMS.

(RCAHMS, 1982, 36)

An archaeological evaluation of the route of a proposed pipeline in January 1993 noted that the naust was still clearly visible. The report suggested a post medieval date, and recommended that the pipeline be diverted around the site.

Nts Note (January 2016)

A boat noost near Port an Diseart was protected from the route of a proposed pipeline by its re-routing.

Trial trenching up-slope from the noost to examine one of several disc-shaped features c15-20m in diameter revealed no archaeological evidence.

Trial trenching close to the shore revealed a stone dump of probable recent date
