Archaeology Notes

ND03SE 20 0958 3332.

Roy's map marks five buildings at Dail-a-bhaich; these probably include the buildings at Bouilag (ND03SE 22). Dial-a-bhoich consists of an enclosure complex, a long house, an ancillary structure and a large kiln barn. The long house is approximately 50m long by 4m wide and is divided into 5 rooms.

W Roy 1747-55; Information from Historic Scotland to RCAHMS, July 1992.

A farmstead, comprising three unroofed buildings, one of which is a long building and one enclosure, and a head-dyke are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xxxviii). It is similarly shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10,560 map (1962).

Information from RCAHMS (AKK) 8 January 1996.
