Archaeology Notes

NJ50SW 15 centred 540 003

The remains of a probable mill are situated to the NW of St Adamnan's church (NJ50SW 1). The remains consist of a complex stone-built structure and an associated pond, 6m in diameter. The structure is very ruinous with walls no more than 0.15m high and 0.4m thick. Between the mill and the church is a short length of enclosure bank, 5m thick and

2m high, spanning a stream gully. The 1899 OS 25" map depicts a mill lade on the hillside above the structures described.

EUCFA 1991/2.
