Archaeology Notes

ND02NW 14 005 261.

ND 005 261. Wagmore, a minor deserted settlement, comprises a long-house, three dwellings or byres, a corn-drying kiln, a shieling-like cell and two enclosures, all reduced to overgrown footings, 0.8 m high, and surrounded by former cultivation which has reverted to rough pasture. The settlement was superseded by a shepherd's house (ND 0660 2615), itself now ruined, and a circular sheepfold.

Visited by OS (NKB) 26 October 1982.

A farmstead comprising five unroofed buildings, one of which is a long building, and an enclosure is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xli). Six unroofed buildings and an enclosure are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10,000 map (1991).

Information from RCAHMS (AKK) 16 October 1995.
