A double ditched linear cropmark was revealed by aerial photographs to the W of New Mains farm.

RCAHMSAP 1990.

Aerial photographs have recorded a linear cropmark running N-S to the W of Newmains farmsteading (RCAHMSAP 1994). The narrow cropmark consists of two pit-defined lines, which run parallel for some 1500m crossing several modern field boundries and the B1377 public road. The northern end of the linear cropmark lies in a field E of Drem. Close to the W side of an enclosure at NT 515 795 (NT57NW 105) it disappears further to the S at a point N of Kilduff Hill (NT c.517 782). Other pit-alignments occur in the same general area.

To the W of these cropmarks a further linear cropmark has been recorded (NT57NW 112). This is depicted as a field boundary on the 1st edition OS 6-inch map (Haddingtonshire, 1865, sheet v) which continues as a zigzag cropmark in a southerly direction, and is visible in the SW corner of a field to the SW of Newmains farmsteading.
