A Roman encampment was reported near West Linton by Gordon.
A Gordon 1726
Trial excavation by G S Maxwell, following on from RCAHMS aerial survey, confirmed part of the perimeter of a fortlet guarding the crossing of the Lyne Water, immediately N of West Linton. Defended by two ditches on the SW and severely damaged by ploughing, the fortlet lies in permanent pasture on the W side of the Roman road from Clydesdale to the Forth, roughly half-way between Biggar and Elginhaugh. Topographical constraints suggest that the site measures no more than 70m square over the rampart.
