Activities

Field Visit (27 March 1990)

NJ44SW 32 4352 4095.

Balnacraig, which is shown roofed on both the first and second editions of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire 1874, xxv; 1902, xxv NW; Name Book, Aberdeenshire, No. 37, p. 32), has been reduced to grass-grown footings. It comprises at least four buildings and three enclosures; the first edition map depicts a horse-gang on the W side of the main range. Comparison of the two editions of the map, however, suggests that the farmstead was extensively re-modelled between 1874 and 1902.

Visited by RCAHMS (SH) 27 March 1990.
