Archaeology Notes

NY37NE 10 c. 392 794.

Two silver brooches and fragments of two others and a gold, sapphire and emerald ring, a pebble-set gold ring, 15 jet beads, and 70 silver pennies and 3 halfpennies of Edwards I and II, penny of Alexander III and 2 of John Baliol, ploughed up at Woodhead Farm in 1863. In the National Museum of Antiquities.

According to J and R Hyslop (1912) this hoard was found at New Woodhead (NY 392 794) in 1864. No further information could be found by local enquiries.

Visited by OS (RD) 18 December 1970.

Woodhead. Listed as hoard: includes coins, silver brooches, gold rings and jet beads.
