Archaeology Notes

NY27NW 4.01 c. 219 751.

There was a small tower-house within the Roman fort NY27NW 4.00, datable to the 15th and 16th centuries, and occupied by a family of Carlyles. It is not known whet her there was an earlier building, but this is likely. There were occupied dwelling s within the fort area until well into the 18th century. Surface finds of medieval pottery have occasionally been made.
