(NY 1601 9341) Covenanter's Grave (NR)

OS 6" map, (1958)

Site published in error and a duplication of 'Hislop's Grave (AD 1685)' at Craig Haugh, Eskdalemuir: see NY29NW 3.

The O N B has: 'Andrew Hyslop, the last man who suffered martyrdom in Scotland, was taken prisoner in this glen, and conveyed from thence to Craig Haugh, where he was shot by Johnstone of Westerhall. A tomb stone has been erected to his memory'.

Name Book 1858.

In confirmation of ONB, there is no trace or local knowledge of a memorial stone at the published site.

The current edition of the OS 1:10,000 scale map (viewed 11 January 2011) depicts a 'Mon' at NY 16034 93385 about 30m SE of the location published on the 1958 edition of the OS 6-inch map.
