Location formerly entered as NY 1049 8430.

A small mound about 55 yards NE of the church, in which the base of the market cross is said to be embedded, marks the site.

The right to hold four annual fairs and a weekly market at Applegarth was granted to Sir William Jardine in 1685.

NSA 1845 (W Dunbar); Name Book 1857; G S Pryde 1952.

No trace of the mound or base of the cross remains. A war memorial now occupies the site.

Visited by OS (RD) 19 May 1966.
