(Name: NX 9746 7614) Site of Lochmabengate Port (NR)

OS 1:1056 map (1852)

Lochmabengate Port (mentioned by Shirley) was the main gate on the east of Dumfries. Local informants state that it was surmounted by a tower, and was completely demolished about 1760. Its site was pointed out by Mr G Dunbar, proprietor of the ground, who states that it was pointed out to him by has forefathers. His siting was verified by Mr J McCormick.
