Archaeology Notes

NX96NW 2 904 688.

Two medieval bronze tripod cooking pots were recovered from Loch Arthur (NX 904 688) prior to the period 1840-4; they were originally in the hands of D Hamilton Craik of Arbigland, the land-owner. Their present location is not known, but a third vessel from this loch (also known as Lochend Loch or Lotus Loch) is in Dumfries Museum, donated in 1852. It is of a probable 15th century type. (See also NX96NW 1.)
