Archaeology Notes

NX87SW 6 8213 7156.

Two circular artificial islands - not crannogs - in Auchenreoch Loch (NX 81/8271) were examined. They were composed of rounded stones or clay quite unlike the natural foreshore.

A E Truckell 1954, 1955

NX 8213 7156. Only one island can be seen in Auchenreoch Loch. Viewed from the shore it appears to measure c.8.0m across and does not resemble a crannog.

Visited by OS (BS) 8 November 1973

Interviews with local residents indicated that this island was modern having been created during construction on the nearby shore. This was confirmed by underwater investigation.

T N Dixon 1989.
