OS 6" map (1910)

At the head of the village of Twynholm is a small mote-hill apparently formed for the most part of forced earth. The mound stands on the bank, some 20 ft high, of a stream. It has been much reduced in size at various points to make room for carts and for the disposal of rubbish. It is 18 feet high, about 60 feet in diameter at the base, and its flat top measures 47 feet east to west by 38 feet.

RCAHMS 1914, visited 1911.

Motte, generally as described above. A low retaining wall has been built around the base of the west and south sides and steps lead up to its flat top which has been used as a garden. In addition, a small, stone structure has been built into the west side of the mound. The mound, however, is still 4-5m high, the flat top measuring c.14.0m E-W by c.12.0m N-S.

Revised at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (WDJ) 26 January 1965.
