(NX 6834 5619) Chapel (NR) (Supposed Site of)

OS 6" map (1910)

The supposed site of an old church or chapel. No remains exist other than a circular row of ash trees which seem to have enclosed some kind of building or graveyard. Human bones have been dug up in the ground at different times, and ornamented or cut stones have been found, some of which may be seen in the walls of Mr McMonie's barn.

Name Book 1849; RCAHMS 1914

No trace of the chapel survives, but an earth and stone bank surmounted by several ash trees (probably the north and east bank of the graveyard) can still be seen. Mr McMonie's barn was not located.

Surveyed at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (RD) 24 February 1972.
