(NX 6884 4597) Stone Circle (NR)

OS 6" map (1957)

Only four stones, all displaced, remain of this stone circle which originally consisted of nine stones. The others were destroyed by the tenant of Drummore farm in 1867. Stone A on plan is quite flat, and 2' 6" above ground; B is 2' high, while C and D are only 1' high. The 5 destroyed stones are said to have been much higher, standing c. 5' above ground. The probable diameter of the circle was 80' or 90'.

RCAHMS 1914, visited 1911; F R Coles 1895

As described. Stone A, the largest, is 1.6m x 1.0m x 0.6m high.

Revised at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (WDJ) 13 January 1971.
