(NX 1724 6265) Cairn MacNeilie (NR)

OS 1:10000 map (1978)

The remains of a large circular cairn, around and over the margin of which great quantities of gathered stone have been deposited. A domical portion in the centre, however, with an elevation of some 3'6", probably contains the original interment. The diameter has been about 56'.

RCAHMS 1912

As described by RCAHMS. The original dimensions could not be ascertained due to the stone clearance which has been deposited around the edge. There is nothing significant about the domical portion in the centre. The name is not in local use.

Resurveyed at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (RD) 8 March 1968

This cairn stands on the edge of a terrace 100m NW of Cruise steading. In 1911 the cairn measured 17m in diameter, but it has been used as a dump for field-cleared stones and is now oval, measuring 23.7m by 21.5m and up to 1.6m in height.

RCAHMS 1987, visited (SH) 10 April 1986.
