Archaeology Notes

NX15NW 8 c. 149 592.

Glenhinnie - On Dunragit Moor, there is an old farm site, with four rings. One, of 45 feet, has part cut off by a field wall, and a few yards off there are traces of two smaller rings, one in a hollow, the other on a knoll, while a fourth has been in a bog, south of the old homestead. These are classed as 'Closed Rings'.

G Wilson 1899

Area centred NX 149 592. The large area bounded by dykes in which Glenhinney stood has been deep ploughed and planted with firs. An extensive perambulation failed to locate any rings, although there is evidence of field clearance and numerous piles of stone and rubble. Visited by OS (RD) 28 February 1968

Wilson noted at least two probable hut-circles in the vicinity of the ruined farmstead of Glenhinney; there were also three circular structures and a cairn nearby. The whole area is now afforested.
