Archaeology Notes

NX05NE 19 0593 5583.

There are no visible remains of the tower-house that stood on a low terrace to the N of the Garthland Burn, 348m NE of Colfin farmsteading. An enclosing ditch, mentioned by M'Ilwraith, is probably a hollowed trackway. John McCaig Esq, the farmer at Kilhilt has in his possession a letter of about 1933, addressed to the Earl of Stair, which refers to the removal of the remains of the tower-house at Kilhilt.

NSA 1845; W M'llwraith 1877; P H M'Kerlie 1906; RCAHMS 1985, visited August 1984.
