NMRS REFERENCE:
The Object Name Book of the Ordnance Survey describes the house as 'A commodious mansion of modern construction pleasantly situated on the north bank of the River Tweed, annd surrounded by a large park well stocked with woods; there are extensive offices, and a large garden attached. It is the property of Miln (sic) Home, and tenanted by Capt Ramsey Retd.'.

Paxton: An Adam house (mid-18th century) built of pink sandstone on the traditional plan of a solid central block connected by curving balustraded walls to the low wings enclosing a spacious courtyard.
SDD undated.Thought to be by one of the Adam brothers, possibly John Adam.

NMRS PRINTROOM:
A perspective view of an obelisk from the set of designs of an obelisk intended for the estate at Paxton (see also B 20877-85) is in the NMRS Printroom and shows the less elaborate version. The obelisk was never executed but an estate plan of 1850 at Paxton shows the intended site for the monument. A photograph, also at Paxton, shows a model for an obelisk in the Picture Gallery of the house.
