Archaeology Notes

NT85NW 13 8106 5540

NT 8112 5555. A short cist was found in March 1963, when ploughing on Manderston Mill farm. Excavated in April, it was found to contain cremated bone.

The sides of this wedge-shaped cist were of sandstone slabs and measured up to 3'4" long x 1'8" wide standing to a depth of 1'. The capstone measured up to 5'3" long x 2' wide and the floor of the cist consisted of a single slab slightly smaller than the cist (Information from Mr Mackensie Robertson, farmer, Manderston Estate).

It's position was indicated on the plan at NT 8106 5540.

There are now no remains.
