Archaeology Notes

NT77SE 52 NT 76850 72500

A series of linear cropmarks have been identified by oblique aerial photography 350m SE of Castle Dykes farmsteading. A linear cropmark, orientated WNW-ESE curving to the NW-SE, is visible for a distance of at least 380m (NT c.7675 7255 to NT c.7709 7238). Immediately S of this cropmark are two curving parallel linear cropmarks situated about 4m and 6m apart. They are visible for at least 590m and are aligned NW-SE curving to the ESE after 200m (NT c.7659 7262 to NT c.7709 7237). A further linear cropmark runs S for at least 60m from these.
