Archaeology Notes

NT75NW 1 7495 5595

A mound 45' x 21', oval in form, much destroyed, is situated some 500 yards NNE of the NW corner of Young Jeannie's Wood, Knock Hill.

J H Craw 1923.

NT 7495 5595. A low mound, measurements as above, which does not appear to be of any great age. The field in which it is situated shows extensive rig-and-furrow.

Visited by OS (JD), 7 January 1955.

This oval feature comprises a stony mound 5.0m by 4.0m and 0.5m high with, on its north side, the apparent footings of a small rectangular structure. The earth and stone bank is approximately 9.5m by 5.5m and 0.3m in height. It is probably associated with the adjacent rig and furrow and may be a bothy with a stone clearance mound or kitchen midden.

Visited by OS (MJF), 13 June 1979.
