(NT 7187 4629) Tenandry House (NR) (Site of)

OS 6" map, Roxburghshire, 2nd ed.,(1908).

Tenandry House stood in the ninth field E of the public school on the N side of Marchmont Road. The field is still known as Tenandry Field, and two old ash trees mark the site of the house, which is said to have been a castellated structure. Some remains were visible about 1815, and its foundations were removed a few years before 1863.

R Gibson 1905; J Walker 1868.

No trace of the house remains; it was built on a natural knoll. The trees mentioned above have since been felled.

In view of the castellation, Tenandry House may have been of 16th - 17th century date (Information from OS field surveyor [JFC] 27 January 1955).

Visited by OS(RD) 22 July 1970.

There is no trace of Tenandry House; the date of its construction is unknown.

RCAHMS 1980, visited 1979.
