Dovecot, Grahamslaw.

A circular dovecot built of freestone rubble and dating from the 16th century stands on the high left bank of Kale Water immediately opposite Grahamslaw. It was connected with the house of "Grymsley" which was burnt by the English in 1544. (Hamilton Papers, J Bain ed. 1892). It measures 63ft 4in in girth near the ground, but the wall is intaken above a projecting offset-course. The entrance, checked for an outer door, faces W, and there is a circular aperture in the roof to admit the birds. The nests are of stone.

RCAHMS 1956, visited 22 March 1933.

The dovecot is as described by the Commission.

Visited by OS (RD) 13 November 1967.
