(NT 7093 2615) Eckford Tower (NR) (Site of).

OS 6", Roxburghshire, (1924).

Eckford Tower (Site).

There are no structural remains of this tower, which comes on record in 1526 (Reg Sec Sig 1908) and was presumably burnt in 1554 (Hamilton Papers, J Bain ed. 1892).

RCAHMS 1956, visited 20 October 1937.

'Burnt by an army under Sir Ralph Eure, 6th Sept 1554. Shortly after this it appears to have been rebuilt, but was again destroyed in 1570 by the Earl of Sussex.'

New Statistical Account (NSA) 1845.

There is nothing to be seen of this tower. The site and name are still known locally.
