Burgh Cross, Maxton. Maxton was a burgh of barony. (OPS 1851-5). Its cross, standing on what was once the village green, was considerably restored in 1881, only the lower part of the shaft and the uppermost step being original. The shaft has chamfered angles and the original portion measures 1ft by 9 1/2ins by 3ft 6in high; the step is 14in high and measures 2ft 4in by 2ft 8in.

RCAHMS 1956, visited 8 July 1933.
