Rue Castle (Site). No structural remains survive. William de Rucastel is on record in 1296.(Information from Exchequer Rolls, J Stuart and G Burn Burnett (eds.) 1878). In 1543 Rue Castle was burnt after the barmkin
had been seized.(Information from the Hamilton Papers, J Bain ed. 1892).
RCAHMS 1956, visited 15 October 1937.
This is presumably the site of one of the two towers mentioned by by Watson, which defended the village of Ruecastle, destroyed in 1513 and apparently rebuilt to be destroyed again in 1545. (See NT62SW 5).
