Archaeology Notes

NT57SE 30 NT 55898 71495

NT 558 715. A single-ditched, oblong enclosure measuring at least 350ft by 200ft, with an entrance on the W, is visible on air photograph.

It is situated on Morham Mains farm, at a height of about 350ft OD.

This is one of at least twenty rectilinear ditched enclosures in Mid- and East Lothian which are superficially comparable with the Iron Age timber-house sites of the Northumberland coastal plain.

The site of this enclosure falls on the top of a slight plateau in a ploughed field at NT 5590 7151. There is now no trace of any feature.
