(NT 5390 5140) Burn Castle (NR) (Site of)

This is a traditionally pointed out as the site of Burn castle, a peel tower.

Name Book 1857

Nothing now remains of Burncastle except for some lime-covered stones of the foundations which are seen when the field is ploughed, about 100 yds NE of the present farmhouse. An associated well was found about 1857 when the stackyard was being levelled. It is now filled and closed.

A Thomson 1904

The old tower of Burncastle was connected with the Logan family, who acquired Fast Castle in the early 16th century.

J H Craw 1924

No trace now remains of this castle. Local inquiries produced no further information.
