The strongly-buttressed ruin a little W of the church and the remains of a very deep and well-built well are all that is left of a brewery dating from the latter part of the 16th century. The ruin is known as Society, from the Society of Edinburgh Brewers. (Presumably the church referred to is the parish church, at NT 457 732; the only other church in the parish is in Longniddry, at NT 441 763.)
