(HU 3832 1385) Old House of Brow (NAT)

OS 6" map, Shetland, 2nd ed. (1903)

A pile of stones, the site of either the old house of the Sinclairs of Quendale or of the hamlet of Brow. Not an antiquity.

Name Book 1878

A broch.

(A Rae orally informed OS on 27 November 1966)

All that can be seen of the Old House of Brow is a sandy knoll, with a covering of bent grass, one of several hundred similar knolls in the area. No evidence to suggest a broch.

Visited by OS(NKB) 23 April 1968.

HU31 3 OLD HOUSE OF BROW

Possible broch in Dunrossness, a sandy knoll which once showed stones; there are conflicting views as to whether it is likely to be a broch site, or even an antiquity [1].
