Lugate Castle stood close to Lugate farmhouse. All that remains is part of one of its walls, built into an outhouse, now ruinous. No historical information could be obtained regarding this castle (NSA 1845).

Name Book 1852

There are still some remains of an old Border keep at Lugate farm steading. It is marked as "Lugate Castle (In ruins) on Knox's map.

T Wilson 1924; J Knox 1812

An iron mattock or axe, found when trenching heather near Lugate Castle was donated to the NMAS in 1870. It measures 14ins long by 3ins across the cutting edge.

Proc Soc Antiq Scot 1873

No trace of the outhouse was found, and no further information regarding the castle was obtained.
