(NT 4947 3668) Tower (NR) (remains of)

OS 6" map (1971)

The much reduced remains of this small, late 16th century tower formed part of Appletreeleaves farm steading until recently. Only its lowest storey survives; its N end still forms the harness room for a stable which has been built against its N gable, while its S end has been roofed in as an implement store. When complete, the tower measured 31ft 2 ins by 20ft 6 ins; the S gable, the highest part, is only 15ft high. The ground floor was probably vaulted. Entrance is by a wide, modern archway in the W wall.

RCAHMS 1956, visited 1933

The remains of this small oblong tower are as described by the RCAHMS .
