(NT 3690 3769) Caberston Tower (NR) (site of)

OS 6" map (1964)

No certain traces now remain of Caberston Tower, the site of which is marked on the O S map immediately W of Old Caberston. The tower is said (Name Book 1856) to have been square in form and two storeys high. A farmhouse was at one time built beside it, the tower then being used as a kitchen. Both tower and farmhouse were removed about 1850 leaving only one building, which may be the present house (see NT33NE 44).

Nothing is known of the tower's history, but William Stewart of Caberston is on record in 1563.

RCAHMS 1967, visited 1958

Nothing now remains of Caberston Tower, its site falling within a pasture field.

Visited by OS (WDJ) 26 June 1961 and (BS) 3 September 1974.
