Archaeology Notes

HU31NE 11 3600 1883 and 3603 1886

'A' - HU 3600 1884: 'B' - HU 3604 1888. The footings (0.4m thick) of two rectangular buildings (c.12.5m by 3.3m and c.15.8m by 3.3m respectively), suggested by F T Wainwright to be Norse long houses, but by J R C Hamilton to be medieval 'seaters' (information from Mr T Henderson, Curator, Shetland Museum).

The lack of rounded corners and their association with old field walls and enclosures support Hamilton's theory.

Visited by OS(RL) 18 May 1968.
