Archaeology Notes

NT27SE 120 2598 7404.

(NT 2598 7404) A quantity of fine red Samian 'of the usual embossed character' was discovered in digging in St Ninians Row, now Waterloo Place, on the west side of the Calton Hill, in 1815 for the foundations of the Regent Bridge (NT 2597 7404).

It was acquired by Thomas Sivright of Southhouse and remained in his collection until it was dispersed after his death. Ritchie (A Handyside Ritchie, sculptor) examined the Samian while it was in Sivright's collection.

D Wilson 1863.
