In 1462, land was granted for an almshouse of which the chaplain of Our Lady Chapel (NT24SE 11) was to be 'tutour and sursear'; and the 'land callit the almshouse' near 'our Lady Chapel' is mentioned in 1549. Peebles Charters; R Renwick 1903; I B Cowan and D E Easson 1976
